Calling On Carla: E&L Global Communications Newest “It Girl!” 👠

Posted on

It’s not often you meet someone like Carla – professional, goal-oriented, humble, and hard-working. In fact, from her preliminary interview with E&L Global Communications back in June, we knew she was special.

A Detroit native, Carla grew up with a personality as big as her dreams. The youngest child of three girls, she grew up empowered by her mother with a vision of being a lawyer or a doctor. An outgoing child, Carla expressed herself early on through English & Art classes, writing essays on Johnny Cochran and how he inspired her to pursue law, and poems about coping with her moms illness. In 7th grade she even helped found a poetry club for her middle school, helping other students learn how to express themselves and share their voice.

In high school Carla joined her school’s track team, exercising her competitive spirit and desire to win – two traits she still holds today that help her continuously break records at E&L Global Communications! Enrolling immediately after high school at Wayne State, Carla received her Associates, but quickly realized that Law was not what she saw herself doing long-term anymore. She accepted her first position in retail sales and immediately found a niche working face-to-face with consumers. Her love for communication was so apparent that customers and co-workers were drawn to her  – something that hasn’t changed since her first job outside of college 10 years ago!

After gaining invaluable experience in sales, Carla was offered a job working as an Administrative Manager for a local Detroit-based construction company! Whether she was helping with purchasing, payroll, or negotiating contracts, Carla’s good nature and easy going personality made her a trusted go-to within the company. After she invested 5 years, though, and didn’t see any internal advancement opportunities, Carla realized that it was time for her to pursue a career that would allow her to further her leadership & management skills elsewhere.

Upon putting her resume on Ziprecruiter, she (naturally) receive a lot of attention and job interviews, but remembers her experience interviewing with E&L Global Communications as the most memorable of all. Attracted to the company’s mission, contagious energy, and growth structure, Carla knew that she had found her home and the last stop she wanted to make on her career train.

Since starting with the company in July, Carla has redefined her goals and what success means to her. With intentions of being promoted into an Assistant Management role within the company in the next 2 months, she comes to work every day ready to work and eager to win. A continuous pace-setter in national sales rankings, Carla shows us that generating new customers for our client is all a matter of your attitude and your mindset. Since her promotion to Lead Client Manager last month, she know holds responsibilities coaching, training, and mentoring new hires for the company.

When asked what she loves most about working at E&L Global Communications, Carla responds “the relationships built; whether I’m interacting with my coworkers, customers, or managers, I feel like I’m working with like-minded people – people who make me want to work harder and are genuinely interested in my success.

If there’s one thing we’re certain of, it’s that there are great things in store for Carla and this blog is just the first of many accomplishments coming her way. As excited as we are about what she has done in 2 short months, we are even enthusiastic about her future within E&L Global Communications and the places she sees herself taking the company. We wanted her to know that her contributions are immense and seen by our entire Executive Team. Carla – keep up the amazing work. You make us proud!

An internship at E&L Global Communications is unlike many others. There’s no coffee fetching for the whole office, no grunt work or meaningless tasks, and no cloak of invisibility because you’re not a full-time employee. In fact, a summer marketing & sales internship at E&L Global Communications is synonymous to having the same roles, responsibilities, and pay as a permanent team member. Why? Because we believe the best way to prepare Michigan’s finest collegiates for life after graduation is by immersing them into a world where they’ve ACTUALLY already walked the stage and work full-time. Nick Poplars, upcoming Junior at Western Michigan University got to experience that world this summer after accepting an internship at E&L Global Communications; an internship he excelled at in every way possible.

Born in Detroit and raised in Troy, Nick is as athletic, competitive, and good-natured as they come. A product of a big, Italian family, Nick recalls his best memories as a kid around a table accompanied by food. Even to this day, Nick, his parents, and younger brother still sit down every Sunday and spend quality time together over dinner.

Always outside and active, Nick remembers playing every sport possible, from wrestling to baseball, football to basketball, and his favorite, hockey! Still, to this day he laces up his skates and hits the ice, a past time that helps him exercise his competitive and team-oriented side!

When it came time to choose a college, Nick followed in his father’s footsteps and selected WMU (Go, Broncos!), immediately falling in love with the city of Kalamazoo and the campus. Selecting marketing & sales as his major, Nick knew he had found a potential career path that would allow him to compete, challenge himself daily, and be in control of his income. When his sophomore year came around, he realized it was time to translate his classroom experience into the work force and immediately set out to find a summer internship that would most apply to his major.

Stumbling upon E&L Global Communications online, Nick came in for a first interview and was blown away by how warm and welcoming everyone was. After being offered an internship opportunity, he accepted with an open mind and eagerness to learn. What the internship did for him and offered to him over the next 3 months, though, surpassed every expectation Nick ever had.

When asked what area he grew the most in, Nick answered that his “communication skills had greatly improved” and his confidence in talking to new customers from May to August was vastly different. He recalls great memories formed from weekly team nights, and the best experience of them all, a company sponsored trip to Los Angeles.

A direct quote from the Founder & President, Meshak Faton about Nick states that “…he has been the best sales and marketing intern we’ve ever had. He was promoted into a Lead Client Management position within his first month and spent the remaining 2 months helping talent scout, traveling to California for training, and representing our team among 4 others during a big transition to a new client! He was a difference maker in our company this summer.”

When he wasn’t working hard this summer, you could find Nick up North on the lake jet skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, working out, watching Game of Thrones or spending time with his significant other and work colleagues. Returning back to WMU a more self-assured marketing & sales professional, Nick is eager to implent all he learned this summer at school and with his peers.

Nick, we hope in writing this blog that you know how valued and appreciated you are at E&L Global Communications. We are dreading your last day in 2 weeks, but know that the lessons you learned here have prepared you greatly for your last years at school. Thank you for being such a reliable and ambitious force to work with. We wish you all of the best of luck back at school. Go get, em!

Leadership Defined 📖

Posted on Updated on

“Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal.” (Kevin Kruse, Forbes Contributor)

How does one define leadership? More importantly, what makes a great leader? At E&L Global Communications, our 8 core values are the ingredients that make up our definition of leadership. Through repeated actions, executed by even the highest ranking in our firm, leadership becomes not just a destination, but a continuous process of development and improvement.

E&L-Global-Communications-Photoshop

Dedication

Leaders are committed to their work.

Great leaders keep their end goals in mind! They have a clear vision of what they want their team to accomplish. A leader’s dedication lies in helping his/her team reach its goals because this ultimately helps the leader achieve his/her own goals.

Work Ethic

Leaders set the pace.

They are the record holders, the go-to people, and the all-star trainers of the office.

It’s not because of talent; it’s because of work ethic. E&L Global Communications believes that if a person wants something bad enough, they will work hard and develop the skills needed to get it!

Student Mentality

Leaders never stop learning.

They understand the importance of humility and that there is always room improvement. Leaders are self-aware and know what they can get better at. Whether it’s through reading a business book or receiving advice from a mentor, the leaders at E&L Global Communications are always seeking to become the best versions of themselves!

Philanthropy

Leaders give back.

They seek to help others less fortunate because by setting this example, others follow in their path! E&L Global Communications hosts fundraising events for organizations, such as The Ronald McDonald House and Operation Smile, as a way to give back to the community!

Attitude

Leaders stay positive.

They never underestimate the power of a positive attitude. At moments of triumph and tribulation, their mood stays consistent. This ability to protect their emotions and remain optimistic sets the energy for the rest of the team. As we say, more people like Tigger than Eeyore, right?!

Integrity

Leaders inherently do the right thing.

They do the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do. In representing the caliber of clientele that we do, it is imperative that leaders within E&L Global Communications act with high character and morality at all times. We value our partnership with our client, their customers, and our team, and would never want to jeopardize that by taking a shortcut in business.

Competitiveness

Leaders love a good challenge.

They know that in order to get the team results they desire, they must be willing to set the pace and throw out a few challenges here and there to keep everyone on their toes! We value competitiveness in a leader because we know they will be driven long after external motivational factors fade. The internal fire that fuels an athlete to practice when their entire body aches are what also fuels leaders within E&L Global Communications.

Humility

Leaders remain humble.

They are confident, but not arrogant. They know the day they have the mindset that they’ve arrived, they will fall from grace just as quickly. A true leader knows they must continue to ask questions, seek knowledge and learn from others in positions they desire while remaining likable and approachable.
While there are many values that create great leaders, we know that by focusing our efforts on just a few we will master them. March Madness at E&L Global Communications! 🏀

Posted on

It’s one of the most famous annual sporting events in the United States. It’s where champions are made. It’s March Madness.

Basketball is a huge topic of conversation at E&L Global Communications, especially during March! As we anxiously await the Final Four this weekend, we have chosen to share an exclusive interview with our very own collegiate basketball player – our VP of Marketing, Meshak!

So, Meshak, how did you initially get interested in basketball?

I initially got interested in basketball by staying up late and sneaking up in the living room so that I could catch the Lakers game at 4-5 AM. I fell in love with the sport just by watching it.

Now that’s dedication! Who did you play for in college and which position did you play?

I played for a small school in Southern Indiana called Vincennes University as a Point Guard.

We have to ask, who is your favorite basketball player of all time?

That would be none other than Kobe Bryant!

Kobe Bryant is an amazing basketball player! Now, on to college basketball. We know you love March Madness, but what is your favorite aspect of it?

The non-stop basketball games – the underdog story is always thrilling!

Agreed! Next, we think we can guess this based on fan memorabilia in your office (haha), but who is your favorite collegiate team and why?

That’s easy – The North Carolina Tar Heels! I love the legendary coach, Dean Smith, and the history of the program.

Nice choice! And who is your favorite collegiate player?

Nigel Hayes (a Forward for the University of Wisconsin); he plays his heart out and stands up for what he believes in!

We’re going to play devil’s advocate here and ask, who is your least favorite collegiate team?

Haha, that would be the Duke Blue Devils. When they were beat by South Carolina this year, I really enjoyed that.

Image result for duke blue devils suck

On that note, what is your favorite collegiate rivalry?

UNC vs Duke – the excitement and anticipation is like no other!

Who do you predict will win the National Championship?

UNC is going to win it all and cut down the nets in April! I can’t wait to see it happen!

Love the confidence! Last question, how has playing basketball helped in your professional career?

It has really taught me the fundamentals of leadership and how to be proactive instead of reactive. If execution doesn’t begin with planning and preparation, your goal then becomes a wish. Competition has always been a core value for me. By playing sports my whole life, I have learned that you can have results or excuses, but not both.

Thank you, Meshak, for taking the time to share your all of your insights! We look forward to the Final Four games this weekend and the National Championship party in the office Monday! That’s happening, right? 🙃😉

Shine Bright Like A Diamond: E&L’s Spotlight On Suzanne

Posted on Updated on

Steve Jobs famously said, “it doesn’t make sense to hire smart people and then tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.” There is no better way to summarize the feelings we have about Suzanne Neforos than to say we followed Job’s quote and hired one of the smartest, most energetic young professionals we’ve ever met!

Born and raised in North Olmsted, OH, Suzanne has been a social butterfly since birth! Described by her family as outgoing, determined, and creative, she was involved in nearly every activity under the sun as a child and teen – french club, key club, musical theater, thespian troupe, Concert Choir, and a vocal jazz group! Attending Kent State after high school due to the proximity to family and homey feel, Suzanne knew she had found her home for the next 4 years. She kept busy between gospel choir, Relay for Life, American Marketing Association and as a legacy to the Delta Gamma sorority! It was there as a New Member Educator to incoming sisters that Suzanne found her love for recruitment and training.

Majoring in Managerial Marketing and minoring in International Business/Communication Studies, Suzanne knew from high school that she wanted to be in a sales management position, preferably as her own boss. Something about dressing up in a suit, building strong relationships with clients and helping improve their business operations intrigued her. Immediately after college, she started working as a Marketing Specialist for a chemical company, traveling 5 days a week to different states to train sales representatives. Learning extensive skills in negotiations, acquisitions, and face to face communications, Suzanne left to start a career in pharmaceutical sales.

Something interesting happened, though, and despite experience in business to business sales, a 4-year degree, and all the necessary certifications, Suzanne had trouble finding gainful employment. It was then she ran across the Management Development Program at E&L Global Communications and never looked back. A believer in performance-based growth, Suzanne excelled into both leadership and management roles; so much that she was offered an opportunity last year to oversee the entire Human Resources Department. Since her promotion, E&L Global Communications has grown into a respected small business in the local Detroit/Troy community and a haven for marketing/sales professionals looking for more career growth.

On the weekends, she LOVES to try new restaurants – preferably sushi and Mexican. She’s a fur mom to two, Shameless (on Netflix) binge-watcher, barre extraordinaire, THE biggest fan of the real housewife series (ATL, NYC, OC – all of them!), and a believer in spending quality time with the people that matter most to her – her family and significant other. She lives by the strength and grace she learned from her mother, the knowledge that she is exactly where she is in life because of her efforts, and the desire to make E&L Global Communications the most sought after marketing firm in the Midwest. This isn’t the first or the last you’ll hear of this firecracker, as the pride we have for Suzanne’s character and work is immense. To keep up to date with her career growth and office shenanigans, follow Suzanne on E&L’s Twitter, @eandlglobalcomm, and to read more of her biography, check here!

4 Things I’ve Learned In 4 Years

Posted on Updated on

E&L Global Communications in Troy, Michigan recently achieved a milestone of being in business for 4 years, and where statistically most small businesses fail within the first 5 years, our firm is only just hitting our stride! My role as the VP of Marketing has been the career I have already dreamed for and has allowed me to grow a remarkable amount over the last years. I wanted to share with you 4 “keys to success” I’ve learned in the 4-year history of E&L Global Communications and hopefully shed some light on attributes that lead to long term career growth!

1.You Must Have Vision

“I remember getting in the marketing/sales industry 5 years ago in hopes to gain E&L-Global-Commnications-FBFexperience, develop my communication ability and have just enough skills to be marketable for that ‘big dream job’ one day. Somewhere in the back of my mind, though, I always remember my mother’s voice saying ‘In life, you’re going to work hard and long; remember to get to a point where you do it for yourself.’ I couldn’t get over that thought. It’s okay to follow, but I knew I wanted to lead one day and have the opportunity to call the shots in my career.

I also knew I wanted to live a life filled with meaningful things, purpose, and one where I could help people around me become better and get more than they ever envisioned for in their careers. One of my coaches always said ‘if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up someplace else’ and it helped me focus and be intentional about the things I wanted. The success I want to create for our company and anyone that steps foot within our doors is only done so through extreme vision. Everyone is capable of having a vision. All that is left is the decision to implement it!

2. Character, Commitment & Courage

“You don’t run an organization without the 3Cs: the character to do what’s right, not what’s easy, the commitment to finish what you said you were going to do, and the courage to overcome anything that comes in the way. Let’s be honest it sounds easy, but it’s really not. You wake some days and you’re fired up ready to take on anything, and some days you wake up feeling like you just don’t have it in you. Those are the days where character evolves, commitment gets tested and courage is a MUST. When you’re able to get over those days 1, 2, and 3 times, you’re on the way to accomplishing great things.”

3. Work Ethic & Tenacity

“Ever heard someone say ‘Talent means nothing unless combined with effort”. That’s my belief. Size, intellect, beauty – none of it offers the same long-term results as work ethic.ryan-smith-career-fair Work ethic is a value you can’t teach;.it’s an internal feeling that gets you up when you don’t want to, the DESIRE to do it for someone other than yourself. It takes tenacity to keep going when you fail and a whole lot of internal drive to be highly successful in business. There’s more people in entry level and mid-management roles than CEOs for a reason. That reason is work ethic and tenacity! Our recruitment process at E&L Global Communications is so selective because finding individuals who have that insatiable hunger is challenging…but worthwhile when we do!

4. Authenticity & Transparency

“My mother always said this is a delicate one. People will not always like it, but they will respect you for it. Being authentic and transparent within the marketing & sales industry is vital when representing a client as distinguished as ours. Within the office, I focus on authenticity by coaching our team through praise and mentorship, but also a swift kick in the butt when needed! I teach every individual at E&L Global Communications that the more confident you are about yourself and where you are going in life, the more people will be attracted to and want to follow you.”

Overall, the last 4 years have been incredible and the adoration I have for E&L is tremendous! This company has produced business partnership, friendships, love, support, growth, travel, and everything in between. There are businesses that you can build alone and businesses you can build with friends, and our company would be nothing without the loyal and supportive team we employ. As my favorite quote by Larry Wall goes, “the road to success is always under construction!” Thanks, Troy and Michigan for a great 4 years and cheers to much more to come!
