Here at E&L Global Communications, we consider travel and networking to be a part of our standard job description. Except when we say standard (because traveling is common for us) we mean that it’s THE best part of our responsibilities and that no matter how often we go, we still get the same rush!
Anywhere from 5-7 times a year, our Management Team and select team members travel both nationally and internationally on behalf of our client. from locations like Chicago, Austin, Miami, Los Angeles and more. Whether it be to another branch office location or national conferences complete with thousands of marketing professionals, each excursion is a story of it’s own.
Last week, we sent Founder/VP of Marketing, Meshak, and 2 Lead Client Managers for a week long business trip to the Big Peach aka Atlanta! Upon their return, we decided to interview them for this blog so they could tell us all about their favorite moments, the purpose of their trip, whom they met, sights they saw…basically everything! Needless to say by the time we were done hearing about their adventure, we were ready to sign up for the next flight!
Q- So Meshak, tell us! Why did our client, T-Mobile, ask the three of you to travel to Atlanta?
A- The reason we were asked to work out of Atlanta for a week was to assist in the training and development of team expanding to a new office location in New York City. Considering the fact that our Michigan office is one of the top performing in the country, they wanted us to transfer our product knowledge and work habits to this upcoming office!
Q- Though you were doing a lot of the teaching, what did you learn yourself while there?
A- The biggest lesson we took away from our trip is that there is something to learn from every single person you meet in business. Whether they are a recent college graduate or someone with 15 years experience in the industry, you can always learn something new if your ears are open to improvement. Also, working with the National Director of Sales for our client reminded us the magnitude and power of networking. IQ is highly overrated in business nowadays; it’s all about your people skills and ability to build relationships.
Q- Atlanta is a REALLY cool city! What were some of the fun things you did in your spare time?
A- We definitely made sure to check out Peachtree for St. Patrick’s Day, went out with probably 100 co-workers to karaoke at a place called Dark Horse and then a really popular nightclub called Havana Club! And the food… SO GOOD! We made sure to eat a lot too, don’t worry!
Q- What are some essentials you recommend for any traveling professional?
A- A great neck pillow for long flights, for sure! Paperback books from your favorite business author or a Kindle, a traveling steam iron to keep your suits looking fresh and lastly, a notepad and pen; you never know when you’ll be struck by inspiration or have a learning opportunity to write down!
Q-What’s next for the E&L Global Communications team as far as travel?!
A- A new trip will definitely emerge every 3-4 weeks, as our client realizes new demands they have for training and expansion, but for right now we’ll be traveling to Dallas in July and the Dominican Republic in September! We are literally counting down the days for that trip and highly encourage anyone who’s interested in attending to start stepping up their name!
Q- Any last words you want to share about your trip?
A- If you love to travel, don’t ever be afraid to ask for the opportunity! Life truly begins when you step outside of your comfort zones!
